How to Find a Great Place to Concentrate when Studying at College

One thing that many college students learn very early in their college career is that study distractions are plentiful while places to concentrate are few. It seems like everywhere you turn people are doing something that takes away from your ability to study. Your roommate plays her music too loud. People in the dorm lounge are talking and laughing. Sometimes even the library isn't conducive to studying. Don't give up your search. There are plenty of great places that you can concentrate while trying to study at college.

Part of finding a good place to study also means finding a good time. Chances are your roommate doesn't play her music so loud all day long. At some point the people in the dorm lounge will either go back to their rooms or find something better to do. Pay attention to what people are doing around you. You might be able to study while your roommate is at class, taking an afternoon nap, or hanging out outside the room. If your roommate happens to be in the room every time you are trying to study, you might work out a deal where there is quiet time during certain periods of the day. This will give you the chance to study without leaving the comfort of your own room.

If you have a friend whose schedule is different from yours then you might be able to borrow his or her room for some time. For example, if your friend is in class during the times that you're out of class or they have a part time job. A friend might be able to give you access to their room so you can get some studying down. This works best with friends who have private rooms, apartments to themselves, or roommates that are never in the room.

The library is typically a quiet place. People, even college students, don't always observe the noise level rules. Chances are that there's another less crowded library somewhere on campus. Most colleges have several libraries at different places on campus. One of these other libraries is sure to be less crowded and less noisy than the library that you have been going to. If you are not sure of other libraries on campus you might consider asking an older student. Your dorm resident assistant would be a good place to start. College professors will also be a good resource for finding libraries on campus. A campus directory will also have listings of the libraries on campus.

You don't have stick to the typical study locations. Really all you need is a place that has the best environment for studying. Remember that deserted looking coffee shop you saw last week. Or maybe there's some other kind of restaurant on campus that doesn't receive a lot of attention from the other students. That might be a great place for you to get some studying in between classes. The best part about a studying in a coffee shop or restaurant is that you can get a great beverage or snack to go along with all the knowledge that you're gaining through studying.

The quad or the park is another great place where you can concentrate while studying. You can find a good bench or spread a blanket under a shade-providing tree. You can go over your class notes while a cool breeze sweeps across your head. This is a calm, stress-free way to study. Certain weather conditions might limit your access to this kind of environment. When you are planning to study outdoors it is best to take a look at the weather forecast to make sure that you don't get drenched in an unexpected downpour.

It can be rather difficult for college students to find a place where they can study in peace. Campuses are filled with people who are doing all kinds of distracting things while you may be trying to study. Be creative as you are thinking of somewhere that you can concentrate while studying. Think of the place that is least likely to have distractions. This place will be your best bet for getting some studying done. If you don't find a place right off keep trying. There's bound to be at least one place where you can do the studying you need.
